NY Fashion Week - Spring 2012 Ready to Wear

It’s Fashion Week in New York and the country’s top designers are showcasing their lines for Spring 2012. Viewing these collections is a great way to forecast what will be in style this spring and to get a head start on the new trends. From what I’ve seen thus far there is a lot of velvet, feathers, sequins, and color: luxury at it’s best.

One of my favorite designers, Christian Siriano, showed his line this afternoon and I must say, I want every single look! You may remember Christian from his season of Project Runway where he took home the top honor.

Here are a few of my favorite looks:

Mademoiselle Chanel

I’ve always felt that design follows fashion, and vice versa. In my opinion, Coco Chanel is the epitome of style and class. Her lavish apartment combined with her eye for fashion, create the perfect inspiration for a sophisticated, feminine space.

Chanel bought the space at 31 Rue Cambon, Paris in 1910 and stayed there until her death in 1971. The building houses the Chanel store at street level, haute couture dressing rooms on the second floor, the apartment on the third floor and a workshop on the fourth floor.

While Chanel spent much time in the apartment at 31 Rue Cambon, it was used mainly for relaxing and entertaining. There is no bedroom in the apartment for Chanel did not sleep here, but in a suite at the Ritz nearby. The apartment was said to have been sprayed each day with Chanel No. 5 before her arrival so the scent could greet her.

Because the apartment did not house a bedroom, here is what I would envision in a Chanel inspired bedroom. Mirrored accents, hints of gold, plush furnishings with her signature quilt pattern, crystal chandeliers, and artwork inspired by Chanel herself.

1. Antiqued Gold Mirror - Horchow 2. Tufted Headboard - Horchow 3. Golden Chandelier - Horchow 4. Portrait of Mlle. Chanel - 5. Tufted Bench - Horchow 6. Chanel No. 5 Art Print - Etsy 7. Mirrored Nightstand - Z Gallerie 8. Crystal Table Lamp - Z Gallerie

Nothing like Scotch in the Morning

As I was typing I happened to look down at the retched state of my finger nail polish, it’s awful (I’m wondering if I can just walk around today with my nails curled under). How did I let it get this way? Well, I have this problem with nail polish. I become obsessed with a color, use it non-stop for weeks, and then I’m over it. So right now the color I am using (which I do still like, but I’ll admit the love affair is fading), is a warm steel gray, but I feel like I need something new. As a serial-nail-polish-buyer, I came across these polishes from Scotch (no, not Mr. Walker) and the bonus is that they are non-toxic and eco-friendly. Let’s be honest, if I’m painting something on my body, it’s best if it’s free of toxins, right? I’m really loving the Heather Blush or maybe the Kiltlifter (that sounds fun!).

Thanks to Design Crush for the heads up on these great polishes!
